How to correctly install MDF, solid wood and PVC plinths

The installation of baseboards is an essential aspect in completing any flooring project, be it residential complexes, residential projects OR residential complexes. Choosing the right skirting board material is crucial and the most common options are MDF, solid wood and PVC. Each material has advantages and disadvantages and the right choice depends on the desired style, available budget and environmental conditions. For example, MDF skirting boards are ideal for a seamless, modern look, while solid wood offers a classic aesthetic and long-lasting durability. PVC skirting boards are an excellent choice for areas with high humidity due to their water resistance.

Before starting assembly it is essential to prepare the surface. Cleaning and leveling it are fundamental steps to ensure correct fixing of the skirting boards. A dirty or uneven surface can lead to long-term problems, such as peeling baseboards or unsightly gaps. Our team of experts at RATGROUP SRL uses professional Columbus sanders to ensure a perfect floor finish before installing the skirting boards.

Tools needed to install baseboards include a backer board router, tape measure, cutting board, glue gun, and screwdrivers. We use high quality equipment such as Bosch and DeWalt to ensure every detail is done with precision. For example, when I worked on a residential project in Munich for Mercedes Benz Autohaus, I used a Bosch miter saw to get precise cuts at 45-degree angles.

Correctly measuring the length of the skirting boards is another fundamental step. It is important to measure each wall separately and add a few centimeters to compensate for any errors. Skirting boards can be cut with a saw or an electric saw, depending on the material chosen. For the solid wood skirting boards, for example, we used a Makita electric miter saw, which allowed us to obtain smooth and precise cuts.

Techniques for assembling MDF plinths may vary. Some of the most common methods include using glue or screws. I personally prefer to use UZIN adhesive to attach MDF skirting boards because it provides excellent adhesion and allows for quick installation. On a recent project in Passau, I used this method and the result was flawless.

Solid wood skirting boards have the advantage of durability and superior aesthetics, but they also have disadvantages. They can be more expensive and require regular maintenance to prevent damage from moisture or insects. In the project for the College Zell am Tee Tirol we opted for solid wood plinths and the customers were extremely satisfied with the final appearance.

Installing PVC skirting is another popular option due to its ease of installation and water resistance. Mounting methods include the use of glue or special clips. In a recent project for a residential complex in Austria, we used clips to install PVC baseboards, which facilitated the process and reduced installation time.

The use of quality adhesives is essential for a long-lasting fix. UZIN and Wakol adhesives are preferred for their excellent adhesion properties and moisture resistance. In a project carried out for Caverion Deutschland GmbH, we used Wakol adhesive to attach the MDF plinths and the result was a solid and aesthetic installation.

Finishing the skirting boards is an important step that should not be overlooked. Painting, varnishing or varnishing can improve the overall appearance of your baseboards and protect them from wear and tear. For solid wood plinths, in our recent projects we opted for varnish, which added shine and protection.

Ensuring a perfect joint between skirting board and floor is essential for a uniform appearance. It is important to ensure that the plinths are installed flush with the floor and that there are no unsightly gaps. Our team always makes sure that every detail is checked before the work is completed.

In case of difficult corners and joints there are specific solutions that can be applied. Using special miters or cutting baseboards at precise angles can help achieve a clean, professional look. On a recent project we faced a challenge with the corners of a new studio apartment, but using a Janser electric miter saw we were able to get perfect cuts.

Maintenance and cleaning of skirting boards after installation is essential to preserve their long-term appearance. We recommend avoiding harsh chemicals and using gentle cleaning solutions. It is also a good idea to periodically check the condition of the stickers and the finish.

The aesthetic impact of plinths on interior design cannot be underestimated. Well-chosen skirting boards can perfectly complement the style of a new home or apartment, bringing an extra touch of elegance and sophistication. We at RATGROUP SRL are proud to have contributed to the creation of beautiful spaces by installing plinths in various residential projects.

In conclusion, choosing the right baseboards is essential for any flooring project. We recommend that customers consider the desired style, available budget and environmental conditions when choosing materials.
